Shabby Chic Winter Collage

All my beautiful vintage ephemera supplies from Tanja from Sigrid Studios.

I had so much fun with this project...it was my first attempt at creating a collage. I love the Shabby Chic style, the color pink and snow, so I thought I would combine the three. I had this shadow box picture frame for about 15 years hanging in my bathroom, so I took it apart and painted it with ASCP in Old White. I used some vintage ephemera generously supplied to me by Tanja from Sigrid Studios, her etsy shop....and...I want to thank Eleanor Erickson from A Bit of Heaven for letting me play. Ok...so here's what I did. I used things I already had around the house...a painted pine cone...old vintage jewelry...some old burlap trees my Mom had for years...I made my first paper flower using paper that Tanja supplied and in the middle of that flower I have a cameo earring...on the trees I have vintage buttons and an Angel...I made an angel using paper supplied by Tanja and a pink bow that was part of the original frame...and the "SNOW" is Epsom Salts glued on with Mod Podge. Please excuse my lack of photography skills...my next project hopefully will be photography lessons. Again, I want to thank you Ele and Tanja, for everything...this was fun!! Hope to play again soon!  Merry Christmas!   Please visit these ladies, Tanja...  http://www.etsy.com/shop/sigridstudios  (guest supplier) and Eleanor Erickson...  http://www.abitofpinkheaven.blogspot.com.

Itching for another re-furb project!

I've been looking around in my local thrift stores for another project so I can use my new paint, no luck so far. I think I want to do another chair, chairs are fun. I had my eye on some chairs at my local T.S....but I snoozed and I lost...But, I'll find something, and when I do I think I'm gonna use my new paint from Clark & Kensington in "Gardening Season" the free quart I received from ACE Hardware on free quart day..It's a pastell green....so pretty!

My attempt at painted bottles as seen on Pinterest!

This is my version of painted bottles and can. This bottle was .25 at my local thrift store and the can...well once held yummy asparagus. I used Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in "Old White" with a little pink acrylic paint to tint it pink...I didn't have to de-stress the paint..all I did...by accident...was just go over the not quite dried paint with another layer of paint and it caused the paint to kinda pull down and leave break marks...if that makes any sense. I glued a silver and pink stone earring to the front. The can is painted with the same paint and adorned with a strip of pink plaid fabric and a vintage button. I have another liquor bottle I spotted one day lying on the side of the road but knew my spouse wouldn't stop for me...so I thought about that bottle for a week and decided one morning to drive the 15 minutes back to the area to check on it...and....it was still there!!  Yayy for me! it is nice too, I just need to find some solvent to get all the print off of it. Then I will paint that one with one of the two free quarts of paint I got this past weekend at ACE Hardware...my Aunt gave me her quart, thats how I ended up with two. I picked a pastell blue and a green...so very pretty. I will post pics. soon of that one when it's done.

Antique stool re-furb before & after

Original Fabric
This is the before pictures of an antique foot stool I picked up Saturday while junking with my BFF Angela...we've been besties for the past 35 years. We're "JUNKING BFF's". As a matter of fact she's the one who spotted it and brought it to my attention, and of course I nabbed it!

This is what was found between the two layers of fabric...some little kid was hiding things.
And the after...I painted the stool using a watered down Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in "Old White". I then waxed the piece with Annie Sloan clear wax. The top is covered with a piece of thrift store find fabric that was purchased at the same place.

I left the bottom unpainted to show it's original fabric and age.

I believe this had to have been a handmade piece...look at the legs, the top looks like a limb right off the tree. None of the legs are an exact match... I'm sure because they we're hand lathed the old, old timey way.

Look at the joiner on this piece...old. You can see the original fabric in the pics.

I love this fabric...so fitting don't you think?

Fresh happy new page

I've just spent the last 6 or so hours downloading backgrounds from the Graphics Fairy, she is amazing, I love her site...I may have to change often just so I can use all the backgrounds I downloaded. I also downloaded some buttons but I haven't been able to figure out how to get them on my blog. That will have to wait for another day. So, how do you like?
                                                                                                               See Ya!

I had to block myself from my own blog!

Ok...So apparently I somehow started following my own blog (don't ask), so I had to go in and block myself...from myself? Oh well, I'm still playing around and learning about blog-land, so please just hang in there with me. I am frantically looking for a place to have my daughters baby shower, the place I thought for sure would be available isn't...Grrr! It's the perfect place too, just a 1/2mile down the road from us, a big community building with kitchen and everything. It's always something!Still no car, It started storming, again, on the hubs and had to stop before he got started good. And today doesn't look any better, looks like the bottom is about to fall out, you gotta love these "Southern Summers"...right? So, I'm just gonna hang out here on my laptop today.   See Ya!   Nan

Well, another unproductive day has come and almost gone.

It's happening again, since I've quit my job I no longer need to set my alarm clock for 6am...nor do I need to go to bed by 11 or 12 at night. So...I stay up till 3 or 4 am...and sleep till 12 or 1. Yuck...I feel so lazy, I have so much I need to do and want to do...but my car is out of commission and is being worked on as I write this. I really want to go to the thrift store and look for a vanity for my daughters room and some pieces I can refurbish as well, but I guess that will have to wait. And these cats of mine are getting on my last nerve. I didn't set out to acquire them, they found me and I can't let an animal go hungry...so here I am now with 4 and one is a kitten, who by the way doesn't know the difference between a litter box and the "FLOOR". I'm gonna have to find a good home for them soon, well except maybe one, his mom wouldn't take care of him so I bottle fed him from day one.. he is my lovey dovey! He thinks I am his mom and he gives me the best hugs and love..he is such a baby! Well, I'm gonna see what I can get into, like... a tub of ice cream?...bag of cookies?...t.v.? Hmm, let me think.
                                                                                                       By for now,
                                                                                                           Nan

Hello again...It's been awhile

Ok, I really need to buckle down and get this blogging on a roll. Since my last post I have quit my cashiers job to focus on my "Junking & Refurbishing". It's been slow going and a little disappointing I'm sorry to say. I have tried on two occasions to sell at my "not-so-local" flea market with no luck. I had it in my head that I would arrive and sell all I had and arrive home elated, but that was not the case. I went back and got a table closer to where all the antiques and vintage wares were being sold thinking this would help, but NO!  Oh, people would stop and ohh and ahh over my things but it just seems all they are looking for yard sale items and such...thats ok and all...but I was really hoping I would have better luck. I'm not sure what avenue to take, should I continue trying my luck at the flea market? Try a consignment shop? or what? I really love doing this whole vintage re-furb stuff, I really don't want to have to give it up ( I have a very unsupportive other half riding my back) before I had a chance to really give it a go. I know I'm new and my blog isn't even seen by anyone, but it just feels good to write and get things off my chest...but hey...if by chance someone does run across my little meager blog, please leave a comment or advise if you happen to like junking and refurbishing, I would greatly appreciate any advise. I am finally getting the pictures of my re-furbed shabby-chic mid-century modern sewing chair on here. I used Annie Sloan chalk paint...I love it! I then covered the seat with the prettiest rooster fabric I've ever seen. So I guess you could call it "Shabby-Farm-Chic"? Or not!
                                                                              Thanks for looking!
